Privacy Policy
Effective Date: August 21, 2026
Last Updated: August 21, 2026
Version: privacy-v1
This Privacy Policy describes how Silas collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Silas mobile app and related services (together, the “Service”).
Silas is a spiritual companion: daily Scripture, journaling, reading plans, small-group accountability (“Brotherhood”), optional church or ministry programs (“Organizations”), and an AI chat companion. It is designed for users 13 and older in the United States.
Please read this Policy together with our Terms & Conditions. By creating an account or using Silas, you agree to this Policy.
1. Who is responsible
Silas is operated by Silas.AI LLC (“Silas,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
We may transfer this Service, including this Privacy Policy and the personal information we hold, to a successor organization we control (for example, in a reorganization, merger, or sale of the Service). If that happens, the successor will become the operator of Silas and will use your information under this Policy, or under an updated Policy we provide as described in Section 14.
Privacy contact: admin@silasapp.ai
2. Who this Policy covers
This Policy applies to people who create a Silas account or otherwise use the Service.
Silas is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email admin@silasapp.ai and we will delete the account and related information.
Users 13–17 may use Silas. If you are a parent or guardian, you can contact us at the email above about a minor’s account.
3. Information we collect
We collect the information below to operate Silas. We do not collect information we do not need for the Service as it exists today. We do not serve ads. We do not sell personal information. We do not use third-party analytics or crash SDKs in the current app. We do not collect precise location, contacts, camera, or microphone data. The current app does not process payments.
3.1 Account information
- Email address
- Password (stored as a hash by our authentication provider; we cannot read your password)
- Preferred first name
- Timezone and in-app preferences (for example, reminder time and whether reminders are on)
3.2 Content you create
- Journal entries tied to your reading or devotion
- Chat messages you send to Silas, and the replies Silas generates
- Daily commitments and whether you followed through
- Prayer requests you post in Brotherhood
- Discussion posts, replies, and reactions in Brotherhood
- Organization membership and access-code use (the code itself is checked on our servers)
3.3 Progress and use of the Service
- Daily verse and devotional completions (including cycle or attempt history)
- Reading-plan progress and resets
- Streaks and day completions
- Brotherhood membership, invitations, and related group activity
- Organization membership, program selections, and event views in the app
3.4 Device and notification information
If you turn on follow-through reminders, we collect:
- A push-notification token from your device
- Device platform (for example, iOS or Android)
- Your chosen reminder time
You can decline notification permission. If you do, we will not collect a push token for reminders.
3.5 Information processed by our service providers to keep the Service running
Our infrastructure providers may process limited technical information as part of providing authentication, hosting, and delivery — for example, IP address, approximate region derived from IP, device or browser metadata, and security logs. We use this to operate accounts, prevent abuse, and keep the Service available. We do not use it to advertise to you.
3.6 Information we do not collect in the current app
- Advertising identifiers for ads
- Payment card or in-app purchase data
- Precise location
- Contacts, photos, camera, or microphone
- Health or fitness data from device sensors
- Information from third-party analytics SDKs (we do not include those SDKs)
4. How we use information
We use the information in Section 3 to:
- Create and secure your account, and send authentication and password-reset emails
- Provide daily Scripture, devotionals, reading plans, journaling, commitments, and progress
- Operate Brotherhood (membership, invites, prayer, discussion, shared accountability)
- Operate Organizations (membership, unlocked content, events, leader tools described in Section 6)
- Generate Silas Chat replies, including the AI processing described in Section 5
- Send optional follow-through reminder notifications you enable
- Maintain, debug, and protect the Service (security, abuse prevention, operational logs)
- Respond to your requests, including account deletion and privacy questions
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms
We do not use your information to show you third-party advertising. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with third parties for their marketing.
5. How Silas Chat uses your content (AI processing)
Silas Chat is an AI companion. It is meant to point you toward Scripture, prayer, and community. It is not a pastor, therapist, doctor, or crisis service.
What is sent to generate a reply. When you use Silas Chat, we send a request to our AI provider, OpenAI, so it can generate a response. That request typically includes:
- Instructions we write (system prompts that are not your personal content)
- Today’s devotional context (Scripture, reflection, next step)
- Recent chat history from the current conversation (a short window, not your entire history)
- Your current message
- When it is relevant to what you asked, additional account content you created — which may include recent journal reflections, recent commitments and their status, and reading-plan progress
This means Silas Chat may process more than the latest sentence you typed. If you ask about what you have been journaling, committing to, or reading, those records may be included so the reply can be personal. This retrieval is controlled by Silas. We do not send your content to a third-party vector database or search index.
What is not sent. We do not send Organization leaders your journals or private chats. We do not sell chat content. Brotherhood discussion and prayer live in Brotherhood; they are not used as a default memory source for Chat beyond what this Policy describes.
OpenAI’s role. OpenAI processes this content on our behalf to generate the assistant’s reply. We configure each request so the content is not stored by OpenAI for OpenAI’s own logs and is not used to train OpenAI’s models.
What we store. We store your chat history in our own database (hosted by Supabase) so you can return to the conversation. That stored history is part of your account data and is removed when you delete your account, subject to Section 8.
6. When information is visible to other people
Silas includes community features. Some information is visible to other users by design. Please do not post anything in Brotherhood that you are not willing for your group to see.
6.1 Brotherhood members
If you join a Brotherhood group, members of that group can see:
- Your preferred first name
- Your daily commitments and whether you completed them
- Your prayer requests
- Your discussion posts, replies, and reactions
- Related completion / accountability status that the group experience shows
This visibility is core to Brotherhood. It is how the group encourages follow-through. It is not a public social network. People outside your Brotherhood cannot see this content through the app.
If you leave a Brotherhood or delete your account, your membership is removed. Content you already posted may be deleted or may no longer be associated with an active account, as described in Section 8.
6.2 Organization leaders
If you join an Organization (for example, a church or ministry using Silas), leaders can manage programs, membership, branding, and events. Leaders cannot access your journals, Silas Chat history, or other private spiritual content.
A leader who is also a member of your Brotherhood sees only what any other member of that Brotherhood sees (Section 6.1). They do not get extra access to private journals or chat because they are a leader.
6.3 Ministry partners
Organizations and partners use Silas as the platform. We do not have data-sharing or data-mining agreements that give partners a copy of members’ pastoral or private spiritual data. Partners see what the product itself shows them in their leader or member role — not a side channel of journals or chats.
6.4 Service providers (processors)
We use companies that process information for us, not for their own marketing. They are listed in Section 7 and in our Subprocessor Summary.
6.5 Legal and safety
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is required by law, needed to protect someone’s vital interests, or needed to investigate fraud, abuse, or a serious threat to safety. We are not a real-time monitoring service and do not claim to review every message.
6.6 Business transfer
If we transfer the Service to a successor organization as described in Section 1, your information will transfer with it so the Service can continue.
7. Service providers
We use the following processors. We do not allow them to use your content to advertise to you.
| Provider | What they do for Silas |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Account authentication, database hosting, server functions that power the app, and authentication emails (using Supabase’s default email delivery) |
| OpenAI | Generates Silas Chat replies. Receives the content described in Section 5. Configured not to store that content for its own purposes and not to use it for model training |
| Expo (including EAS) | Builds the app, delivers app updates, and delivers push notifications when you have enabled reminders |
Supabase may use subprocessors of its own (including email delivery) to send login and password-reset messages. Those messages contain account-related information (such as your email address), not your journals.
We may change processors. We will keep the public Subprocessor Summary current and will update this Policy when a change is material.
8. How long we keep information
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Account profile, journals, chat, commitments, progress, memberships | While your account is active |
| Brotherhood discussion posts or replies you delete | Hidden from members immediately. Permanently deleted from our databases within 30 days |
| Prayer requests that have expired | Hidden or marked expired in the app. Permanently deleted or anonymized within 30 days |
| Push tokens | Deleted when you log out in a way that clears the token, when the token is replaced, or when you delete your account. Unused tokens are removed from time to time |
| Brotherhood invite emails | Kept while an invite is pending. Removed when the invite is accepted, declined, or expires |
| Operational server logs | Typically 30–90 days. We do not log full AI prompt bodies |
| Authentication emails | Per our email/auth provider’s retention |
| Backups | A deleted item may remain in a backup for a short period until that backup cycles out |
We do not claim that deleted community content is erased from our servers at the moment you tap delete. It is hidden immediately. Permanent removal follows the 30-day window above.
9. Deleting your account and other choices
9.1 In-app account deletion
You can delete your account in the app: open Profile, then Delete account, and confirm.
Deletion is immediate after you confirm. There is no waiting period in this version of Silas. This permanently deletes your account credentials and associated personal data in Silas, including journals, chat history, commitments, and progress. Brotherhood and Organization memberships are removed. This cannot be undone.
Some information may remain for a short time in backups or operational logs (Section 8). Shared community content is handled as described in that section.
If in-app deletion fails, email admin@silasapp.ai and we will help complete the request.
9.2 Other choices
- Preferred name, timezone, reminders, and programs: edit these in Profile.
- Push reminders: turn them off in Profile, or revoke notification permission in your device settings.
- Brotherhood or Organization: leave those groups in the app. Leaving is not the same as deleting your account.
- Discussion posts: you may delete posts you authored. They disappear from the group immediately and are permanently removed on the schedule in Section 8.
- Privacy questions or other requests: email admin@silasapp.ai.
We do not currently offer an in-app “download my data” export. You may email us if you need a copy of information we hold.
10. Children
Silas is designed for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete the account and that information.
Parents or guardians of users 13–17 who have questions about an account should contact admin@silasapp.ai.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between the app and our servers, hashed passwords, and access controls on our database.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a unique password and keep your login information private.
12. International users
Silas is offered for use in the United States. If you access the Service from another country, you understand that your information is processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from the laws of your country.
This Policy does not claim compliance with GDPR, UK GDPR, PIPEDA, or similar non-U.S. regimes.
13. U.S. state privacy notices (including California)
Depending on where you live, state law may give you rights to know, access, correct, or delete personal information, or to appeal a denial. To make a request, email admin@silasapp.ai. We will need enough information to verify that the request is yours.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you for advertising.
Because we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are used in California law, we do not operate a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in this version of Silas. If that changes, we will update this Policy and the Service.
You will not receive a different price or quality of Service for exercising privacy rights we honor.
This Section is a notice about how we handle requests. It is not a claim that we have completed a formal CCPA, CPA, or similar compliance program.
14. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do, we will change the “Last Updated” date above. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice — for example, in the app or by requiring you to accept an updated version of the Terms (which include this Policy) before you continue.
The version identifier we record when you accept the Terms is terms-v1 for this edition (Privacy Policy privacy-v1 is included in that acceptance).
